I often find myself looking for
Korean drama series reviews. I particularly love dramabeans.com and I have
taken all their recommendations (via their drama ratings) to heart and watched
most of the series that scored high on their chart. However, after numerous
17-20 hour Korean series marathons, I finally admitted to myself that our
preference in dramas does not match.
So I decided that I will write my
own take on these dramas and hope it helps those who chances upon this blog. In
no particular order but probably verging on what I love most getting remembered
first, here it goes:

The Greatest Love
|
I just watched this drama 2 weeks ago (this entry is written May 18,
2012) and yes! I know, I caught this drama kind of late…. I love this drama to pieces. Probably have
the most satisfying ending of all dramas I have watched (as of writing date).
The plot was fast-paced, I thought the actors were particularly
lovable and it was sweet and fun… and maybe 2-3 months from now, I will be
watching it again..
Verdict: JJJJJ
MUST WATCH … and watch again

Coffee Prince

This is the best fake-man girl stories I have ever watched. I watched
this series 3x already. Everytime… that bike and nuts scene still tugs at my
heart.

The Secret Garden
|
I followed Secret Garden while it was currently airing in Korea. The
wait for the next episode was a week long and I get to read reviews before I
actually saw the subbed episodes.
I like this series, one of those series that does not egg you to when
characters want to sit and think about the parts that you just also saw.
(haha! I should admit I am fond of my alt+right arrow keys ). The OST is top
notch! The sub-plots were not irritating but were fun. The supporting cast
was great.
When I finished this series, I swear I told my sis that this is my
favorite drama. It was a fan favorite and it was a favorite too.

Why do I love Hyun Bin? And Kim Sun-Ah? Why do I love rom-com? This!
This is the reason. I wish there are more TV series that would make me fall
in love with them.

Lovers in Paris

I have a grudge to settle with this series. It was good, great in
fact until that very last part when the writer decided that a trick would be
good. I saw this one a loooong time ago and I am yet to forgive that writer.
A story in a story. No. I can’t forgive you, Writer.
P.S.
This is the first Korean series I watched. However bad I feel about
the ending, I owe a lot to the experience this series gave me

The City Hall

In the later episodes, I can’t help think—“wow! We have come a long
way” I cannot believe how this story started one from an ugly duckling and
ended up as a possible first lady.. stuff of legends! But that is what we
love, trying to recreate a story that can inspire even the ugliest angler
fish

My Girl
|
I watched this series about twice, so I probably liked it. J
I am not satisfied of how that whole granddaughter conflict was
settled, I was heartbreaking and the writer did not particularly sew up all the
tattered pieces but heck! I watched this because I expected a good love story
and a good love story it was..
Verdict: JJJJ

Baker King
|
Top notch sound track! Some exasperating episodes but if some show
can let you watch it for more than 40 episode.. it got to be good. J

Shut Up Flower Boy Band
|
I usually shy away from weird series titles, they often do not have
any surprises to offer.. But I was more than surprised with this series. I
was surprised and delighted that it is good.. very very good.
This is more about friendship and being in a band, than about music..

Boys over Flowers
|
Meteor Garden is one of my favorite Asian TV series. I was super
excited when I learned that a Korean version is coming out. Ha! It even has
prettier boys. But more than the pretty faces, who doesn’t love a story about
an ordinary girl making rich and spoiled boys fall head over heels in love
with her?

Full House

Now, people may say that the plot of this rom-com is too shallow.
Back then though, this is the backbone of romantic paperbacks I loved to
read, getting the opportunity to get to watch something that was lifted up
from my paperback addiction was a gift.

I did not over my head crazy about this drama in contrast with a lot
of people maybe but I have to recognize that this got the perfect mix of
everything to be certified as a hit.

You have gone full circle on trying to resolve the issue and you
realize you have not left the spot at all. That is how the resolution to the
royal issue. But this series never fell short on everything else. Great
soundtrack!

Some people may think that I am rating this drama too generously. I
remember this drama clearly, a set of actors I don’t particularly like except
for Eric. A mature story with too much selfishness but too common in this
world. But how can something I felt too common be actually memorable.

I don’t understand all the fuss people make out of this series, I
thought it was not anything special. I watched this one in a single sitting.
I want to rethink about my verdict for this series and will probably make an
update to this entry when I get to rewatch it.
